What to do Before And After Your Balayage Appointment

It's no secret that we LOVE balayage here at Synergy Hair Melbourne - made famous in the '90s by household names like Jennifer Anniston (AKA Rachel), Jessica Alba and Lauren Conrad, it recently resurfaced thanks to social media trendsetters like Kim Kardashian, Hailey Bieber and the QUEEN herself, Beyonce!

Whilst traditionally considered a 'trend', we LOVE balayage because it never goes out of style and is a versatile colouring technique that looks incredible year round!

If you've decided to take the balayage leap, let's have a look at what you can do BEFORE and AFTER your balayage appointment to make sure you get the exact finish you're after and maintain results for as long as possible.

Before

Wash your hair 24-48 hours beforehand

We don't want your hair to be squeaky clean BUT excessive amounts of oil and product buildup can create extra barriers for the lightener to work through, resulting in compromised highlights.

So it's best to wash your hair 1 -2 days before your appointment.

Book a Consultation

You don't have to wait until your colour appointment to discuss your hair goals.

Book a consultation with our colourists to get to know one another and discuss what look you’re going for!

Bring multiple photos of what you like and/or don’t like so we can look through them together and settle on a finish that you LOVE.

Wear your go-to hairstyle

When it comes to balayage, our colourists will paint differently depending on whether you wear your hair curly or straight. So arriving with your hair styled how you would normally wear it helps colourists to better place highlights.

After

Use an at-home toner

Using a toner at home will brighten your locks and give you a fresh glow between your professional balayage appointments.

Ask our colourists about these products and we can mix up a take-home formulation specifically for your hair.

Use salon-quality hair products

Colour safe shampoos maintain your hair colour and keep it from unnecessarily fading - they also contain hydrating and nourishing ingredients that restore and repair your hair rather than stripping out the colour.

Ask our colourists to recommend a shampoo that will work best for your hair.

Schedule your next appointment

Our colourists will make a recommendation on when you should return for your follow-up appointment.

This could be anywhere from 6 weeks up to 12 months away but it's best to schedule it BEFORE you leave the salon to ensure it's not missed or forgotten.

Whilst balayage is considered low maintenance, it's best to still regularly see your professional colourist so they can help you maintain a glowing and healthy finish.

Balayage colour is a lightening technique that uses chemicals to change the colour of your hair - therefore, understanding how to best PROTECT and PREPARE your hair is essential for a beautiful finish.

Whilst our colourists will guide you throughout the process with expert application and advice, taking charge of your at-home maintenance preserves your hair health and gives you the best chance of achieving that 'lived-in' GLOW you've been looking for.

Synergy Hair Melbourne are experts in balayage application and looks forward to welcoming you into our Melbourne salon for your GLOW UP!
