5 Ways to Make Your Keratin Smoothing Treatment Last Longer

Do you want a GREAT hair day every (single) day of the week?

Keratin smoothing treatments are perfect for those who want low-maintenance hair that looks great morning, noon and night. It smooths down frizz, makes your hair shiny and soft, and provides a protective layer that keeps environmental damage at bay throughout the day.

Keratin smoothing is the ultimate win/win for your hair - helping you look and feel like the queen you are!

One of the questions we get asked the most is how do I make my keratin smoothing treatment last for as long as possible?

Don't worry, we've got your back/hair!

Let's look at our top 5 tips to extend your keratin smoothing treatment for as long as possible.

Wash your hair less

This is advice we always give no matter the service or treatment. Washing your hair less will extend and protect not only your keratin smoothing treatment but also colour treatments and improve the overall health of your hair.

Initially, do not wash your hair for 3 days after your keratin smoothing treatment. If possible, stretch this up to a week (the longer, the better).

Once you do start washing your hair, don't go overboard by washing it too frequently. Your hair is coated with a natural protective layer, washing too often runs the risk of washing away this coating which protects your hair from environmental factors like dust and dirt.

Avoid heat styling

A keratin smoothing treatment will leave your hair feeling 'styled' and beautiful 24/7, so it's best to avoid any additional heat sources as these tools can potentially alter the structure of your hair cuticles and damage your results.

When needing to dry your hair, use the cool setting on your blow-dryer as this will make your keratin smoothing treatment last a lot longer!

Use less, but quality hair care products

Your keratin smoothing treatment will leave your hair stunning without needing to put too much effort into styling.

In a nutshell, this means you won't have to use as many products like creams, gels and oils - if you do, they should be used sparingly, if at all.

Products we recommend using are a sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner to gently wash your hair. This will help extend the life of your keratin smoothing treatment.

Change your hair towel

Normal bath towels are usually made out of terrycloth which is super absorbent and great for drying your skin. However, terrycloth can be harsh on your hair and it can cause a lot of friction, frizz and creases which aren't great for your hair post keratin.

Instead of a terrycloth towel, we recommend using a gentle, absorbent microfiber towel and always gently dab your hair. By doing so, you will absorb excess water without causing any friction that could potentially ruin your treatment.

Use a mist spray

After your keratin smoothing treatment, you may expect to never do your hair again - and you're half right.

Whilst blow-drying, straightening and using heavy hair oils/treatments will no longer be necessary, we highly recommend using a mist spray to ensure your fly-away hair stands stay in place.

The benefits of mist sprays also extend to giving your hair extra volume whilst making it shinier without the harsh ingredients of other styling products.

After your keratin smoothing treatment, you'll spend far less time blow-drying and more time living your best life.

This treatment is designed to have you looking and feeling your best all year round.

By following our top 5 tips, you can be rest assured your treatment will last up to 6 months and beyond.
